FVMQ exists to solve a specific conflict: silicone is superb in the cold but swells in fuel, and fluorocarbon resists fuel but stiffens in the cold. Fluorosilicone sits between them — flexible to -60 °C while resisting jet fuel, diesel and aromatic solvents. It is the material of choice for aerospace fuel systems and automotive fuel-handling seals, and it is priced accordingly.

Typical values for standard moulding grades. Exact figures depend on the specific compound or grade — confirm against your drawing before quoting.
Key properties
| プロパティ | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Hardness range | 50 – 80 Shore A |
| Service temperature | -60 to +200 °C |
| Tensile strength | 7 – 10 MPa |
| Elongation at break | 150 – 400 % |
| Compression set (22 h / 175 °C) | 20 – 35 % |
| Fuel resistance | Good — low swell in jet and diesel fuel |
Values are typical for unfilled moulding grades at 23 °C unless stated. Glass-filled and specialty grades differ.
Typical applications
- Aircraft fuel system seals and gaskets
- Automotive fuel pump and injector seals
- Diaphragms in fuel-handling equipment
- Seals exposed to aromatic solvents
- Cryogenic and low-temperature sealing
Processing notes
- FVMQ swells less than VMQ in fuel but still swells measurably. Design gland volume with the swell allowance, not against it.
- Tear strength is lower than fluorocarbon. Avoid sharp sealing edges and specify generous radii.
- Cost is several times that of silicone. Use it only where the low-temperature plus fuel combination is genuinely required — otherwise FKM or VMQ will do the job for less.
- Bonding to metal needs a fluorosilicone-specific primer; standard silicone primers do not hold.
Frequently asked questions
FVMQ or FKM for a fuel seal?
FKM if the lowest service temperature is above about -20 °C — it resists fuel better and costs less. FVMQ when the seal must stay flexible below -40 °C, which is where FKM stiffens and leaks.
Is FVMQ suitable for aviation use?
Yes, in grades meeting the relevant aerospace specifications. Tell us the spec number and we will confirm the compound and the test documentation before quoting.
