PPS and PEEK are specified when nothing else survives. PPS holds 200 °C continuously, resists almost every solvent, and moulds to fine tolerance — it is the default for under-hood electronics and pump internals. PEEK goes further: 250 °C continuous, biocompatible grades for implantable devices, and a price that keeps it out of anything that does not genuinely need it. Both require hot tools and a machine rated for the temperature.

Typical values for standard moulding grades. Exact figures depend on the specific compound or grade — confirm against your drawing before quoting.
Key properties
| プロパティ | Typical value |
|---|---|
| 密度 | 1.35 g/cm³ (PPS) / 1.30 g/cm³ (PEEK) |
| Tensile strength | 150 – 200 MPa (PPS GF40) / 100 MPa (PEEK) |
| HDT at 1.8 MPa | 200 – 265 °C (PPS GF) / 315 °C (PEEK) |
| Continuous service | 200 – 220 °C (PPS) / 250 °C (PEEK) |
| Mould shrinkage | 0.1 – 0.5 % (GF grades) |
| Water absorption (24 h) | < 0.05 % |
Values are typical for unfilled moulding grades at 23 °C unless stated. Glass-filled and specialty grades differ.
Typical applications
- Under-hood automotive electronics and pump components
- Semiconductor wafer handling and chemical process parts
- Aerospace brackets and fluid system components
- Medical instrument and implantable device components
- Downhole and oilfield seals and insulators
Processing notes
- PPS: melt 300 – 340 °C, mould 130 – 150 °C. PEEK: melt 360 – 400 °C, mould 170 – 200 °C. Both need hot-runner systems rated above these temperatures.
- Tool steel must be hardened and the machine barrel must be rated for 400 °C. Running PEEK on a standard barrel risks degrading the resin and damaging the screw.
- Crystallinity drives properties. A cold mould produces amorphous PEEK that looks fine and fails early — mould temperature control is a quality function here, not a productivity lever.
- Cost is dominated by resin, not processing. Design the wall as thin as the load allows; PEEK at 20 mm wall is an expensive way to carry a load.
Frequently asked questions
Can you mould PEEK on a standard machine?
No. It needs a barrel rated to 400 °C, a hot runner rated to 400 °C, and hardened tool steel. We confirm machine capability before quoting — quoting PEEK without that check is how projects fail at T1.
Is PPS a drop-in replacement for PEEK?
Only where 200 °C and moderate toughness are enough. PPS is far cheaper and easier to mould; PEEK wins on temperature, impact and wear. Tell us the service temperature and load and we will say which one actually meets it.
